The Hottest Planet is NOT Mercury
The Myth: Mercury is closest to the Sun, so it must be the hottest, right?
The Fact: NO.
Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system. Why? Because while Mercury has no atmosphere to hold heat, Venus has a thick atmosphere of CO2 that creates a runaway Greenhouse Effect.

1. The Inner Planets (Terrestrial)
MERCURY
The Swift Planet
- Smallest planet.
- No Atmosphere (that's why it's not the hottest).
- Fastest revolution around Sun (88 days).
VENUS
Morning & Evening Star
- Hottest Planet (462°C).
- Earth's Twin (similar size/mass).
- Rotates East to West (Opposite to Earth).
MARS
The Red Planet
- Red due to Iron Oxide (Rust).
- Home to Olympus Mons (Tallest volcano in solar system).
- Two Moons: Phobos & Deimos.
🚀 The Asteroid Belt
A massive ring of rocks located between the orbits of MARS and JUPITER. This divides the Inner planets from the Outer planets.
2. The Outer Planets (Gas Giants)
JUPITER
The King
- Largest Planet.
- Has the Great Red Spot (A giant storm).
- Largest Moon: Ganymede.
SATURN
The Ringed Planet
- Second largest.
- Can float on water (Density less than water).
- Largest Moon: Titan (Only moon with an atmosphere).
URANUS
The Rolling Planet
- Rotates on its side (98° tilt).
- Appears Greenish-Blue due to Methane.
Revision Flashcards
