The Cell City: Who Does What?
In Exams, you are asked to match the Organelle to its Job Title (Nickname).
1. Map of Cell City
Controls all activities of the cell. Contains the DNA (Blueprints of the city). Discovered by Robert Brown.
Generates energy in the form of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) via respiration. Has its own DNA!
Contains powerful enzymes to digest waste. If the cell gets damaged, it bursts and digests the whole cell (Suicide).
The smallest organelle. It reads instructions from the Nucleus and builds Proteins (Bricks for the city).
Packages proteins inside vesicles and ships them to where they are needed.
Contains Chlorophyll. Cooks food using Sunlight (Photosynthesis).
2. Plant vs. Animal Cell
Not all cities are the same. Plant cities have walls; Animal cities don't.
| Feature | Plant Cell | Animal Cell |
|---|---|---|
| Cell Wall | Present (Made of Cellulose) | Absent |
| Chloroplasts | Present (For Photosynthesis) | Absent |
| Vacuoles | Large (90% of space) | Small or Absent |
| Shape | Rectangular / Fixed | Irregular / Round |
Revision Flashcards
Which organelle?
Lysosome
It contains digestive enzymes capable of destroying the cell itself.
Produced where?
Mitochondria
This is why it is called the Powerhouse of the cell.
Made of what in plants?
Cellulose
It gives rigidity and strength to the plant cell.
Nickname for?
Ribosomes
They synthesize proteins. Can be found floating or attached to ER.
Exam-Style MCQs
A) Mitochondria
B) Cell Wall
C) Ribosomes
Q2. Who discovered the Nucleus of the cell?
A) Robert Hooke
